Dr. Long holds a Doctorate in Counseling with a focus on Traumatology from Liberty University, a Masters in Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary, and a Bachelors in Psychology from the University of North Texas.

Over his extensive career, he has garnered experience in juvenile detention programs, residential treatment, psychiatric hospitals, and private practice. Certified in Cognitive Behavioral Analysis Systems of Psychotherapy (CBASP), Dr. Long is also intensively trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), PIT, and is EMDR Certified. These certifications and trainings allow him to offer specialized support to those dealing with chronic depression, among other issues.

In his practice, Dr. Long draws influence from the works of Jim McCullough, Alfred Adler, John Bowlby (especially his attachment theory), and Karl Jung. He believes that the ability to connect is crucial in the therapist-client relationship, creating a supportive environment where clients feel understood and believed in as they work towards their success.

The most rewarding aspect of his work, according to Dr. Long, is getting to know his patients. His approach to therapy is relational, combining humor and seriousness effectively, and is characterized by what others have described as a “gentle strength”. With a wealth of experience, Dr. Long approaches each session without judgment, looking forward to engaging with and understanding each individual he works with.

He offers both in-person appointments at his Fort Worth location and remote or online sessions. Dr. Long enjoys helping people make sense of their lives, often following ‘rabbit trails’ in therapy sessions to learn more about the individuals he works with, believing that these explorations provide valuable insights into their lives.

Through his dedication to his patients and his field, Dr. Long continues to provide invaluable support and insight to individuals and couples navigating through life’s challenges, with a steadfast commitment to their mental health and well-being.
